real vs. ideal

i think the reason people find unhappiness when they are searching for happiness is because they are trapped between what is ideal and what is real.

we all want to be happy. we all have our own perceptions for what is ideal in and of our lives. we’re human and we get stuck. we overachieve and sometimes we disappoint. we all want ultimate happiness and satisfaction and success. sometimes things that are ideal are attainable, but sometimes we lose sight of reality and forget the balance between what we want with what we need.

it’s tricky trying to reach something that is ideal without being reminded of reality. we must learn to strive for our ideal lives while also making the most of what we have in our realities.

i think i my goal is to make my life a perfect combination of my reality and my idealities.

It’s December 26th. I haven’t seen snow in almost a year. I absolutely love living where most people come just to vacation, but after 21 New England winters, I really just want to throw myself in the snow, if only just to make a snow angel.
I guess you can take the girl out of New England, but you can’t take the winter wonderland joys out of the girl.

Thankful everyday.

Of course we should be thankful everyday, but what I love about Thanksgiving is that it’s a day dedicated completed to reflecting, appreciating, and thanking. There is a change in the mood once the day approaches.

Last year was my first Thanksgiving away from home. I was an intern at the time and spent Thanksgiving with a group of interns who, although we were living at the Happiest Place on Earth, weren’t at home. We did the best we could to make it fun and comforting for everyone, while probably disregarding most of each of our traditions.

Over the past year, I have become good friends with one of my co-workers, Katie. Although she is not from here, she has family here and is able to call it “home” more than I will for probably a little while. She invited me and my sister to spend Thanksgiving with her and her family friends. Most of the people there, I had never met or had only met once, but they treated me like family. When I thanked my friend, she said “I wouldn’t want you to be alone today”. Her family and friends welcomed me into their home and allowed me to join in their 14 year tradition of spending Thanksgiving together. It was a reminder that compassion and kindness can always be found in the least expected ways.

I am so blessed to have Katie as a friend, but to also have so many friends who will always be family to be, whether we are related or not.
